Continuing the momentum of our AI in Higher Ed series, we’re excited to present the third installment: Addressing Bias, Equity, and Practical Adoption. This session focused on some of the most pressing ethical challenges and opportunities associated with AI in academia, including intellectual property, bias, and strategies for adopting AI on a limited budget.
Key areas of discussion included:
- Ethics and Equity in AI: How can institutions identify and mitigate bias in AI systems while ensuring intellectual property is respected in a rapidly evolving landscape?
- AI on a Budget: Practical tips and strategies for institutions with constrained budgets to harness the power of AI without compromising quality or ethics.
- Institutional Responsibility: What frameworks can guide leaders, educators, and students toward responsible AI adoption that prioritizes transparency and fairness?
- Human-centered AI: Focus on AI that prioritizes human needs, values, and well-being in the development and deployment of AI systems.
James Stoffel, CIO at Showa Women’s Institute acted as moderator, with Emily Laird, AI Integration Technologist at the University of Wisconsin-Stout; Frank Hughes, Chief Information Officer at Cape Cod Community College; and Nuno Couto, a founding member of the Meetup group, as panelists leading the discussion.
